Conference in Warsaw

Another event of the ClimATE Change project is behind us. The international conference "Future Agriculture Farmer- and Climate-friendly" organized by Polish Green Network took place on the 12-13 December 2014 in Warsaw, Poland. We want thank all the attendees for their active participation during those two days. Among many participants of the conference were farmers, food producers, representatives of the academia, journalists and other people engaged in the promotion of sustainable agriculture. The first day of the conference, moderated by Antoni Bielewicz from the European Climate Foundation, was filled with lectures, presentations and discussions with the participation of Polish experts as well as guests from Germany, Italy and Malta. On the second day of the conference there was a study visit in Mazovia region farms titled "On the trail of climate-smart practices". Training seminar in Poland

On the 27-28th November 2014, Polish Green Network, in the framework of the ClimATE Change project, held a training seminar in Warsaw titled "Climate for farmers - Cooperation to the benefit of farmers and climate". The seminar was organized in partnership with Transformation Foundation and Polish Ecological Club. Its main goal was raising theoretical and practical knowledge of the participants on the issues of sustainable agriculture and the ways of supporting, both locally and globally, this model of food production as it is most climate-, environment- and people-friendly. Among the seminar participants were farmers, consumers, food producers and distributors as well as representatives of organizations working for the development of sustainable agriculture and responsible consumption in Poland. Lima: conferenza sui cambiamenti climatici

Il 1 dicembre si è aperta a Lima la 20esima conferenza ONU sul clima. Secondo il Ministro all’Ambiente del Perù e Presidente della Conferenza, Munuel Pulgar Vidal, il quinto rapporto dell’IPCC (il panel intergovernativo sui cambiamenti climatici) merita l’attenzione del mondo. In effetti, è stato così. La conferenza Onu sul clima ha preparato il terreno per l'adozione di un nuovo accordo mondiale, previsto per l’anno prossimo a Parigi. Si tratta di un accordo giuridicamente vincolante sul clima cui obiettivo è di ridurre del 40% i gas a effetto serra concordato dai leader dell’UE nel mese di ottobre e il successivo annuncio dei loro futuri obiettivi da parte di Stati Uniti e Cina. The Conference is organized by Polish Green Network in the framework of the ClimATE Change project. Agriculture is an important source of the greenhouse gas emissions and at the same time climate change threatens food production in Europe and other regions of the world. Agriculture – one of the causes and victims of climate change – can also be one the best tools for climate protection. The conference will try to answer the question, how farmers and food consumers around the world can protect climate and natural resources. The event will consist of two days: the first one will be the actual conference and on the second one there will be a study visit in the Mazovia region farms. Local events in Poland

In the framework of the ClimATE Change project Polish Green Network organized in 2014 three open public events in Wroclaw, Krakow and Warsaw. The events were prepared in cooperation with various local partners and their aim was to disseminate the knowledge about the project themes among the wider public in Poland. We wanted to show the participants how they can support sustainable agriculture which protects climate and natural resources both locally and globally. Wroclaw The event in Wroclaw was titled "Community Supported Agriculture Day" and was co-organized with the PGN member organization, Fundacja EkoRozowju (Foundation for Sustainable Development). It was held on the 24th May 2014 during the ecological fair "EkoJarmark". This ecological fair, organized by Fundacja EkoRozwoju already for more than 12 years, is one of the biggest annual events in Poland that promotes organic and local products as well as sustainable agriculture. L’eurozona risponde alla lotta al cambiamento climatico impegnandosi a ridurre i gas serra della metà entro il 2030. What are the interdependencies between climate change and agriculture? How can farmers protect climate? How can they manage local natural resources in ways which are sustainable and protect biodiversity? These are some of the questions Polish Green Network tried to address together with the participants of three workshops organized in Poland in the framework of the ClimATE Change project.
In the context of the UN Climate Conference in Warsaw (COP19) in November 2013 Polish Green Network published the Polish translation of the Oxfam report about the impact of climate change on the causes of hunger in the world.

Mediterraneo: il turismo a rischio

Il turismo, la risorsa più importante del Mediterraneo, sembrerebbe a rischio. A mettere in guardia contro l'aumento delle meduse nelle acque del Mare Nostrum negli ultimi trent'anni è un rapporto realizzato nell'ambito del progetto europeo MedSea dall'Aquarium di Barcellona. Nel rapporto si legge che il riscaldamento dell'acqua e la sua acidificazione, dovuta alla contaminazione provocata dalle emissioni di CO2, sono alla base della proliferazione di meduse, che minaccia alcune specie marine e danneggia il settore turistico. Lo studio segnala che il riscaldamento di mezzo grado delle acque mediterranee e l’acidificazione del 10% nell'ultimo trentennio provocano "una grave disfunzione" degli ecosistemi marini, perché minacciano alcune specie mentre altre, fra le quali le meduse, incrementano la propria popolazione in maniera allarmante, in quanto spariscono i loro depredatori naturali. Gli esperti avvertono che la contaminazione dell'aria sta avendo effetti molto preoccupanti sull'acqua, dato che l'oceano assorbe una parte importante di CO2, all'origine di…
